Meditation - LIstening to God
Edgar Cayce is often quoted as having said that if prayer is talking with God, then meditation is listening to God. I love how he balances the human-God equation. We so frequently ask for help, for guidance, for solutions, for saving, for forgiveness. Yet how often do we interrupt our busy lives to make time to listen to God? That listening allows us to slow down and to open our human minds to the possibilities that God has in store for us. We chose this life to help our souls grow, and when we follow the fast-paced, attention-grabbing, human existence without listening for what God is speaking to us, then we miss the opportunity to grow.
Whether you think of our Creator as God, The Source, or The Universe; He’s real. I understand and embrace each of these expressions. Personally, I use the term God and He for this all-creating, unbounded-loving energy which infuses each of our souls with our life force and the will to grow and learn. It’s a habit of mine from my experience in life. One young girl who had a near death experience and met God was asked whether God was a man or a woman. She replied that God is whichever you need at the moment. I think this is the best way to relate with God. She can give you the warmest, most loving, non-judging hug to heal your emotions after a bad day. And at the same time, He can encourage you to be stronger, do better, and live more genuinely. God is each and God is both.
So what does God’s voice sound like? Listen and find out. Sometimes it’s the gentle whisper or the intuitive nudge to act. Sometimes it’s the smack in the face to get off your butt and make it happen. Either way, God is speaking to us, we need only to listen. You don’t have to sit like the man in this picture to meditate. You can simply lay down on your couch, or sit in your breakfast nook, be quiet, close your eyes, and listen. Focus on your breath to quiet your mind.
So meditate! Open your mind to the Universe. Be open to the Source. Let that energy flow into your soul and let it inspire your growth.
